Dress Code

  • PageRank: 3

These days in America many schools are resorting to school uniforms. Lots of school officials believe that wearing school uniform makes sure that clothing isn't a "distraction." Administration believe that the cause of cliques, bullies, teasing , and poor participation in class is a cause of clothing. They say this generation spends to much time on their appearance. They say, "it saves time in the morning, and its cheaper," and that's partly true.

However, when you buy uniform, where else can you wear it besides school?

Most schools with uniform have maybe khaki pants and a white shirt and then school colors. Not exactly going to the mall material.

school uniforms I feel that uniforms strip us of all forms of individuality. If someone commits some form of crime in school, how would you describe them?
"Oh, he was tall, wearing khaki pants and a white shirt...."
That narrows it down to.. oh I don't know....half the school?

And students aren't the only ones complaining. The teachers, the ones who write you up, are having a issue too. Imagine working in a school where they want you to say, "Tuck in your shirt....where is your belt?....Those socks are not the right color..." to a student when he or she is out of dress code. Now imagine saying that 100 times. Every day.

Now that we have uniform...oh look there is still teasing. But now someone will make fun of you because you are wearing the " wrong" accessories, which would not of been a big deal if they weren't wearing the same thing as you.
The point is, uniform hasn't made anything much better. Public Schools copied uniform from private schools in hopes of better academics, but thats not what makes private schools what they are.  Some private schools give motivation and rewards to their students. In return, students strive to make education their top priority. Some  actually care. Putting something as superficial as uniforms can not, and will not help the education system's internal problems.
